SUNDAY 10th DECEMBER

DOORS 6.30pm COMEDY STARTS 7pm

House of Stand Up bring four top comedians direct from the London circuit to the iconic top floor of Three Wise Monkeys, Colchester, Essex every second Sunday of the month. More information and details of our upcoming shows are shown below.

Tickets are available to purchase online and by telephone through our box office.

Steve Gribbin is a diminutive guitar-wielding satirist from Liverpool whose scabrous comedy songs and off the wall observations have made him one of the firm favourites of the comedy circuit. Steve's original comedy songs combine razor sharp lyrics with tunes that put their foot in the door of your mind and refuse to leave.

Firmly based in rock 'n' roll and refusing to pull no punches, these are not the 'oh so witty' ditties of penguin-suited plink plonk piano playing posh gobs. They are that rarity - comedy songs which are actually funny.

For nine years Steve was the smaller one in the dynamic comedy duo Skint Video, stalwart's of the Edinburgh Festival, appearing on countless television programmes such as Saturday Live, radio such as The Mary Whitehouse Experience, and their own show in 1992/3 Songlines (BBC Radio 1).

Skint Video went their different ways in 1993, since when Steve has been storming across the UK and Ireland as a solo artiste.

Guitar Hero and 'Britains Got Talent' Star

PIERRE HOLLINS

“Don’t miss this true professional at work. Bloody funny” - Time Out

The guitar posturing, electric tennis racket playing chameleon of comedy, Pierre Hollins, has spent years crafting his laugh out loud sets and has been an audience favourite on the comedy circuit for many years. He has a stage presence and delivery style that is the envy of many of his peers and he still appears as fresh today as the day he started.

He has headlined at clubs throughout the UK, Europe, The Middle East and Asia and also has numerous TV writing experiences such as for Bodger and Badger (CBBC) and Waking Up With Winona (Disney Channel).

Appearing alongside many a comedy legend in his time such as Alexei Sayle, Hugh Lorrie and Stephen Fry. This compelling act has to be seen to understand just how funny it is!!!

Often cited as the unsung hero for comedy, the gods bow down at Hollins’ guitar hero feet and after you’ve seen him you will too so be prepared for this comedy veteran to hit you with some effortlessly flippant rock and roll comedy.

Other intriguing facts:

Pierre Hollins used to perform as a comedy acrobat and unicyclist.
His first guitar was a one-string electric squash racquet

(which he still uses at festival gigs)
He used to wash dishes in the House of Commons.

Britain's Got Talent Star Stefano Paolini is a British-Italian stand up comedian combining spot-on impressions, hilarious characters, and even beatboxing to create a uniquely entertaining show.

A familiar face on the UK comedy circuit, Stefano’s impressive mimicry of animals and musical instruments is second only to his rave stand up routines. His headline shows don’t begin and end with the UK, however, as Stefano has performed in Germany, Malta, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, Holland, Dubai, Abu-Dhabi, Doha, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand and Myanmar, making his undeniable talent known to the broader world.

The Evening Standard called Stefano the “best voice merchant on the circuit” and claims he is destined for “far wider exposure”, something breathless audiences up and down the UK would certainly back.

After earning his spurs on the UK comedy circuit Lee became the warm-up man for Have I Got News For You? The producers needed a warm-up man for the pilot of their new comedy sports quiz, They Think It’s All Over, and Lee being as sharp as he was they decided to have him as a regular panellist. Although he had no sporting prowess and he knew next to nothing about football, he won over millions of viewers each week with his quick witted banter. Lee appeared as a regular panellist in the first five series of They Think It’s All Over leaving in 1998.

He returned for two appearances as a guest towards the end of its run for Series 17 in 2004, and for the Comic Relief 24 Hour Panel People Special on 6 March 2011. ★★★★½ The Age

Michael Shafar has taken plenty of big steps in his career as a comedian to date.

Since leaving a career in law for comedy, Michael has been working hard to win his Jewish mother’s forgiveness, and has (somewhat) achieved that, having performed around Australia, New Zealand, Asia, the US and on international waters.

In 2016, Michael burst onto the comedy scene in the RAW Comedy National Final, represented Australia in the Laugh Factory’s Funniest Person in the World Competition and toured across Asia, headlining at the continent’s biggest clubs.

He has since gone on to appear on Network 10’s The Project and Studio 10, ABC’s Comedy Bites, triple j’s Good Az Friday, and toured four shows around the country, regularly selling out at Australia’s major festivals, including the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

He’s also had 10+ millions views online, most of which are probably anti-vaxxers who hate-follow him on TikTok.

ADAM BLOOM

AS SEEN ON
Never Mind The Buzzcocks, Mock The Week and many more...

Adam Bloom is undoubtedly one of Britain’s most exciting and original stand-up comedians. This whirlwind of a comedian has become one of the most in demand headliners performing today.

From the moment he set foot on the circuit over 18 years ago, he stunned the industry with his rapid rise. This included producing countless sell-out shows at the Edinburgh Festival, breaking box office records at The Melbourne International Comedy Festival for a first visit and performing a sell-out UK tour, all within his first five years. All this has brought constant requests for shows, not only in the UK & Australia, but also across the world. From Amsterdam to Cape Town as well as other festivals in Montreal, Sydney, Auckland, Wellington & Kilkenny.

His originality and speed of thought has also resulted in him being hired to write for numerous TV & radio shows – including three series of ‘The Problem with Adam Bloom’ for BBC Radio 4, as well as writing for over 20 other comedians

and personalities, even writing award acceptance speeches.

He is an immensely versatile artist who likes to attune his comedy to his audience, often working his sets around the immediate crowd or subjects that come up spontaneously. This particular talent has made him as popular for corporate events as he is for headlining at clubs around the county. He performs at dozens of company and private events every year with glowing reviews. Adam Bloom’s energy, timing and comedic depths make him an ideal choice for any occasion.

COMEDIAN, ACTOR, DIRECTOR

DAVE FULTON

Dave Fulton has it all; irony, a sardonic turn of phrase, an amazingly relaxed stage presence and the intelligence to casually riff with the British audiences that have adopted this shaggy American joker.

The Seattle-based comedian has played clubs from San Francisco to New York, and notched up many TV credits ranging from Half Hour Comedy Hour (MTV), ShowTime and An Evening At The Improv (A&E) to a cutting-edge US programme called Comedy Explorers where he was filmed floating down the Grand Canyon. He’s also been seen entertaining crowds as far away as Hong Kong and Cape Town, South Africa.

Dave is opinionated, isn’t afraid to pull punches in his observations, yet has a deceptively laid back stage manner that disguises a raw aggression. A varied melting pot of issues that sometimes even he doesn’t want to explore. This is un-missable comedy from one of the most dynamic and innovative comedians breaking on the comedy circuit at the moment. His mother would never have thought it possible from someone who holds a Masters in Music Composition.

Recent television appearances vary from BBC 2’s The ‘Stand Up Show’ to Channel 5’s ‘The Comedy Store’ on which he took the roof off the prestigious club with his highly inventive perspective on life. You’ll have also spotted Dave on BBC2’s Never Mind the Buzzcocks and Steve Coogan’s Saxondale.
